Amulets & Armor United Game Artists 1997

This is a mission-based role-playing game that was two years in development. The player chooses his character between 11 default characters: Warrior, Paladin, Rogue, Mercenary, Sailor, Magician, Priest, Citizen, Mage, Warlock, Archer. The game comes with a number of missions of varying difficulty levels that the player can take in unrestricted order or repeat them. They each have four to five chapters, in which the player basically explores a dungeon, kills a lot of enemies, grabs some new loot, and finds the exit. The game comes in full, textured 3D, and the engine does allow the player to go 'up and down', as in over a spot where you were before. Enemies and items in the game are 2D sprites. Combat is action-based. The game graphics are in 256 colour VGA 320x200 resolution, and probably uses the FPS engine used for Doom as it uses a wad structure for its maps. It remained generally unknown until it was released by abandonware webpages. The features of the game include varied character class selection, the magic system, the character advancement and inventory system, musical score (both CD quality and MIDI versions of the music were available on the disc), and detailed level construction. It has hundreds of items, dozens of different monsters, an innovative spell-casting system with hundreds of spells, and 4 player cooperative or death-match play. There are many unused monsters and objects left in the code, such as a wolf, a banshee and even a deer which can be killed for food! In 2013, the game was released as freeware that also adds a few new features designed to improve playability.
