Descent 2 | Parallax Software / Interplay | 1996 | |

After you dispatched a lot of robots in the original Descent,
you're sent back to take out even more of them. Just like in the first
game you're mission is usually to free some human captives and to destroy
a reactor after which you race towards the exit. The levels are even
bigger and more complicated than in the original and since a lot of
people had trouble navigating the first Descent, Parallax added a guide
bot. This indestructible helper will help you find keys and always returns
should you lose him due to a fight. New enemies like the 'Thief' (which
steals weapons) and the 'Drainer' (which well, drains energy) add to
the excitement (and sometimes annoyance) of the original. The robots
are quite smart and come to investigate if they hear gunfire. Descent
2 is fun to play and the guide bot is really a good innovation. The
levels however seem to have become worse. They're quite repetitive and
monster placement seems to be the same all around. The difficulty level
has also been cranked up a few notches and the first Descent wasn't
easy to begin with. Destination Quartzon was a version bundled with
hardware such as the Logitech WingMan Extreme products and Diamon products
featuring the Voodoo Graphics Chipset which contained the first 8 levels
plus 2 secret levels.
