Loosely based on the Buck Rogers comic strips, this is a fast-paced arcade racing game taking place on a futuristic racetrack. Guide your spaceship between pylons and shoot down other enemy racers. It's a forward-scrolling rail shooter where the user controls a spaceship in a behind-the-back third-person perspective. The game was notable for its fast pseudo-3D scaling and detailed sprites. The game would later go on to influence the 1985 Sega hit Space Harrier, which in turn influenced the 1993 Nintendo hit Star Fox. The PC version introduced a space station that you see on the horizon that draws nearer with each round - at least for the first five loops. Afterwards it turns into the same repetition of color swaps as the rest. |
