Hovertank 3D | ID Software / SoftDisk | 1991 | |

One of the first games of iD Software.
Sometimes it's claimed to be the first FPS or even first 3D game
for DOS. The game used the same combination of scaled sprites
and drawn walls that would later show up in Catacomb 3D and Wolfenstein
3D, but the walls in it are solid colors with no textures. It
was the first program to only render what the player could see
in his field of vision. Instead of wasting processor power on
unnecessary rendering, the computer could instead draw much higher
resolution and detailed graphics, immersing the player into the
game even further. You are a soldier working for a company in
a future world. Nuclear attacks against competitors has become usual. Every company which can afford it are using them, too... Your mission: Gain access into the buildings on which nukes have been fired and save the innocent people, before the nukes arrive and impact. Of course it is a dangerous job. But you are paid well... |
