Nexuiz is a 3d deathmatch game that is simply first person shooting
reduced to the very basics with perfect weapon balancing. With its very
intense and fast gameplay, it will hook the user in. Nexuiz uses such
technology as curved surfaces with its detailed maps, bumpmapping, realtime
shadows, 64 player support, and an advanced model format. The Nexuiz
game contains over 1000 TGA textures, 17 maps, 28 playable characters,
and 10 music tracks. It uses Quake 1 source code but with a heavily
modified engine called darkplaces. The Nexuiz game has been in development
for 2 years by a team of amateur developers and has now been released
free over the internet. The 1.2 version now has CTF, Domination and
Teamplay gamemodes fully supported and there's a completely new Runematch
gamemode among other improvements. Version 1.5 has many new gamemodes, new
maps, new characters, an "Instant Action" button in menu, advanced Bot AI,
and a redo of all the character skins (pant/shirt color like Quake1). There's
also a completely new menu, smoother netcode, engine optimizations, and the
majority of sound effects were redone. Version 2.0 includes a 21 level single
player campaign system, 5 new maps, complete precompiled bump/offset/relief
mapping, game and netplay optimization, all new particle effects, new
gamemodes and gameplay changes, content download, and much more. The last release of Nexuiz (2.5.2) was in October 2009, and community involvement continued where it had left off with Nexuiz in the project which was renamed as Xonotic. Large parts of the code, graphics and music have been redone and have improved immensely. In over a year they managed to make huge progress on pretty much every part of the game. In 2015, Rexuiz, a fan-made clone of Nexuiz Classic 2.5.2 was released with modern engine and small additional features like utf8 support. Rexuiz is compatible with vanilla Nexuiz Classic servers and RocketMinsta servers. |
