Starship Troopers Strangelite Studio / Empire Interactive 2005

The game is set in the 'Starship Troopers' film universe and takes place about 5 years after then events of the second film. At the start of the game, the war against the Bugs is not going well; the bugs are rampaging across Hesperus - a planet perilously close to Earth. Colonised by man, Hesperus was once a haven of earthly tranquillity. Now, it is a terrifying battleground where the weaknesses of an implacable foe must be discovered and exploited. In a mix of 'mass action' and 'infiltration' levels it will be up to the player to make a difference in this titanic struggle and drive the arachnid invaders back into the depths of space. The player is a member of the elite 'Marauder Unit' - the 'Delta Force' or 'SAS' of the future. As such, they are supplied with upgraded weapons and equipment, enabling them to participate in commando-style raids and stealth missions as well as 'toe-to-toe' mass battles. This allows us to challenge the player with a wide variety of different game play situations and gives them the opportunity to unleash an extensive range of weapons with enormous destructive power. These range from the standard plasma rifle and shotgun to new and exciting weapons such as intelligent grenades and the infamous nuke launcher. Many of the 'classic film moments' will be included in the game but now the gamer is taking an active role. The troopers in the game know how to fight (and will do so), but if the bugs are to be defeated the player will have to work out how to defeat the 'Tanker Bug', defend 'Whiskey Outpost' and save their comrades from what seems to be certain death. The action, whilst being all planet based, takes part in a variety of settings - indoor and outdoor levels, including the wide open battlefields, a secret laboratory, claustrophobic bug nests, abandoned mines and lonely outposts. Missions vary from huge real-time battles on an epic scale to solo 'infiltration' type missions. As well as the Warrior, Hopper and Tanker seen in the movie the game will feature over 20 types of bug, all with their own unique characteristics.
