|Based on the visually revolutionary Walt Disney Film from
the 80s, which was one of the first films to use extensive computer created
graphics, appears this PC game Tron 2.0 which is driven by Monolith using
its own Lithtech engine. There was supposed to be a film sequel as well
but it never got off the ground. The developers have let the look of the
internal world of the PC's unchanged, fans of the film will feel "at home"
immediately. The surroundings are bathed in neon light, otherwise there
are corridors, doors and of course programs which look like persons. There
are harmless, useful progams which "can be infected" nevertheless, and
then become viruses. There are also Firewall programs which are not indeed
really hostile, however fulfill their purpose and do not let pass the
player (and add damage if you still attempt to get through). One plays
Jet, that tries to destroy the bad guy Thorn who has infected the system
and tries to bring it under his control. Tron plays itself like a normal
shooter, one runs around and shoots with different weapons at other programs.
Nevertheless, one can update the weapons (in 3 steps alpha, beta and gold)
and also receive different inventory parts, for better armor, for instance.
Like a roleplaying game, all values of Jet improve with the time. There
will probably be many "insider" jokes. Otherwise there will be of course
the light cycle races known from the film which were found during the
last years so often in shareware and freeware games.
I myself enjoyed very much the game, because I liked the film at that time
and the subject is interesting.
