Evochron was technically a sequel to RiftSpace and was largely designed around the feedback received from the original game. Freeform gameplay was expanded substantially by allowing the player to transport and trade commodities and mine material from asteroids. Gameplay was also entirely real time, so there were no cut scenes or menus that suspended the game's universe. Seamless planetary descents were introduced with Evochron, allowing players to travel from space to stations on a planet's surface and back again without cut scenes, immediate scene changes, or loading screens. Long distance travel was managed with built-in jump drives rather than jump gates, giving the player control over when and where they travelled from system to system. Ship-to-ship trading and multiplayer were also introduced. Single Player will let you play the game alone with computer controlled ships while Multiplayer lets you connect to other players via TCP/IP connection through the Internet or a LAN. There are two single player modes, Freeform S.P. (Single Player) and Fixed Objective. Freeform lets you play the game without any fixed objective conditions. You can do things like fight, explore, mine, trade, transport, pirate, and bribe to alter your rank, reputation, and wealth. You can accept contract conditions for guaranteed pay, or preform duties on your own terms. Fixed Objective lets you pick a mission from a list before starting the game. To accept a Fixed Objective mission, you need to be located in the system of the mission. If the game displays the message "Travel to this system to accept objective" then you'll need to travel to the system indicated in the mission title. You can travel to the required system in either the freeform or multiplayer mode and save the game once you arrive. You can then exit and start the mission for that system. If you accept a mission, the game will automatically activate the waypoint indicator on your navigation map and Heads-Up-Display (HUD) to guide you to where you need to go. If you successfully complete the objective, you'll receive payment immediately. Missions in systems that are farther away will pay more, but will be much more difficult to complete. Fixed objective missions are a fast way to make good money in the game, but make sure you are equipped to handle the objective before attempting one. It is highly recommended that you complete the training in the freeform mode and perhaps upgrade your ship before attempting the first mission in Sapphire. |
