This is a fast-paced shooter game with action synchronized to an original musical score. It is multi-player and includes a level editor. Try it because sometimes you just want to blow things up. Originally, Zenix was a 1989 game on TRS-80 CoCo that's a shoot 'em up that resembles Galaga albeit without the capture feature from that game. The enemies are invading insects that start out swarming around the screen before taking their positions above the player. At times groups of bugs leave the formation and attempt to crash into the player who can freely move (including up and down) around the bottom third of the screen. The bugs have different colours which indicates their level of armour. Those with a higher armour level require multiple hits to take down unless the player has access to armour piercing bullets. Unlike other shooters of its kind there is no life system. Instead there is a fuel meter that decreases when the ship is hit. Some of the enemies are fuel bugs. When these are hit they turn into a solid color and slowly drifts toward the bottom. These should be picked up since they refill some of the fuel and sometimes they also give an upgrade to the ship's weaponry. Weapon upgrades include armour piercing bullets and bullets splitting in three directions. This PC version was also made by one of the original developers and features upgraded graphics and 12 practice and 12 regular levels. |
