Blood (Horror 3D) | Monolith / GT Interactive | 1997 | |

Almost at the same time that Shadow Warrior
appeared, Blood also came out, and likewise was built on the Duke 3D
Build engine. You are Cabal, a former supreme commander of a cult called
"The Cabal", worshippers of the forgotten god Tchernobog - who has
betrayed and killed you. You rise from the grave garbed in a black
trenchcoat and broad-brimmed hat with glowing red eyes, spouting the
phrase "I live....again.", and seeking vengeance and answers. There
are many references to horror movies & literature, such as in the
level "Crystal lake" you can find several locations from the Friday The
13th. A room from the movie Seven, and references to H.P. Lovecraft
and Edgar Allan Poe stories also exist. The environment is fully
interactive, with moving floors and active vehicles. Destruction of
landscapes is possible, and bullet holes being left by misplaced shots.
The Build engine is 2.5D, so there are rooms above rooms and puzzles
which are based on this. The mood is more serious here, though you
to get to kick your dead enemy's heads around like they were soccer
balls, and the gags are not so frequent and also more subtle. Fans of
horror films will really enjoy this fun romp. There is blood here also
plentifully. One can shoot enemies with the flare gun and set them on
fire who then run burning around the area. There is a mix of firearms,
including a sawed-off shotgun and a Tommy gun, explosive weapons like
a napalm launcher, a sci-fi shock rifle named after inventor Nikola
Tesla and several dark magic artifacts, including a Voodoo doll. They
have a secondary attack mode which makes them more interesting.
Blood, to me, is a little bit more fun than Shadow Warrior and for
some reason all games on the Build engine seem to have fun qualities.
